Recently I was asked to write down where I wanted to be in eight years. I had registered as a business earlier this year after publishing two books but where did I really see this ‘business’ going, if anywhere? And did being an author class you as a business woman?
While I was writing my visions which obviously included my open plan living in my new detached house. I realised I hadn’t really got a clue where I wanted to be, business wise.
I’ve been told a couple of times I should start a podcast, but you can’t just start a podcast with no specialist subject can you? My husband does one in his ‘spare’ time and they have created fifty episodes so far. His podcasts are all about music with him and his three mates talking about bands that I have never heard of. My husband then spends hours upon hours editing the podcast to release to the world.
But what would I talk about? I’m good at talking about life and making people laugh due to my cock ups at being a parent and wife but that’s about it.
So I do some research, the Top four Podcasts for Working Mums.
1) Happy mum, Happy Baby Podcast, hosted by Giovnanna Fletcher. Wife to a McFly dude (not that that has anything to do it with it being a success or has it?) and a best-selling author. Gionvanna has interviewed the Duchess of Cambridge on her show so she/ they have the connections. Was I going to get guests like that? ‘Hi Duchy, Irene from Bolton wants to know if you’ll be a guest on her podcast and chat shit with her for half an hour!’ I’m doubtful that’s going to work.
2) The Parent Hood Podcast, hosted by Marina Fogle and Dr Chiara Hunt. Discussing topics from Children’s dental health to when to talk about your child about sex. I’m uncertain me discovering the Stinks clean their teeth with water after scraping the toothpaste down the sink, and Ted asking if I wanted some sexy time (obviously not knowing what it is) makes me qualified to discuss such matters. However, I can tell you what happens when you don’t approach these topics in the right way.
3) Wisdom for Working Mums Podcast, hosted by executive coach Nicky Lowe. I’m not sure what constitutes being an ‘executive’ coach as opposed to just a bog standard coach but it makes her sound important so again I think this is not my kind of podcast.
4) The leaders with Babies Podcast, hosted by Verena Hefti. Hefti interviews parents who are ambitious about their career but don’t want to miss out on their young family. If you read my blog ‘Summer ‘holidays’ my arse’ you will see I have no authority to speak about this.
So now I’m no further on.
Although if you want to hear me chat about parenting gone wrong, all about me and the Stinks, then I’m sure I can sort that. So watch this space.
But that’s not much of an elevator pitch now, is it?
